Trapping of pulse injected ions in a radio-frequency quadrupole trap

2014 The possibility of trapping ions from an externally injected pulsed ion beam in a radio-frequency quadrupole ion trap, with phase-synchronized switching-on of the driving field, was investigated. Phase space methods were used to derive the optimum conditions for permanently trapping the injected ions.
